Lionel Messi in jail for tax fraud

Star footballer Lionel Messi has been sentenced to prison of 21 months for tax fraud in Spain.

His father, Jorge Messi, was also given a sentence for frauding Spain between 2007 to 2009.

They were sentenced by the Court of Barcelona.The sentence can be appealed through the Supreme Court.

During the trial, Messi insisted that he knew nothing. His father dealt with all of his financial affairs. He had been busy in playing football.

While his father diverted the blame on financial consultant

Lionel Messi had been retired from international football last month. He had won the Fifa Player of the Year 05 times and he is one of the richest players of the world.

However, neither one is expected to serve time in jail.
