Abdul Sattar Edhi (January 1, 1928 - July 8, 2016)

Abdul Sattar Edhi was born January 1, 1928. He is the founder and the head of the Edhi Foundation 
Pakistan. He has been running the Foundation since 1951. He married in 1965. His wife Bilquis Edhi is also helping him in the matters of Foundation. He died on July 8, 2016 due to illness. 

1-Early Life:- 

Edhi was born on January 1, 1928 in Bantva, Gujrat, India. His mother was died when he was eleven. He got inspiration by attending his mother in illness.  Due to Partition, he migrated to Pakistan with his family. He came to Karachi. He worked there and after some years of social work, establised Edhi Trust.

He married in 1965 with Bilquis Edhi and they have four kids. Two sons, two daughters.

3-Charity work:-

Edhi Foundation has the world's largest ambulance service. And provides free nursing homes, 
orphanages, clinics, women's shelters and  rehab centres for drug addicts and mentally ill individuals.
It runs releif operations in the time of disasters in the country and also in foreign. Since it foundation, the foundation has trained over 40,000 nurses.

-Paul Harris Fellow from Rotary International Foundation, (1993)
-Peace Prize from (former USSR ) for services in the Armenian earthquake disaster, (1998)
-Largest Voluntary Ambulance Organization of the World – Guinness Book of World Records (2000)
-Hamdan Award for volunteers in Humanitarian Medical Services (2000) 
-UAE International Balzan Prize (2000) for Humanity, Peace and Brotherhood, Italy
-Peace and Harmony Award (Delhi), 2001
-Peace Award (Mumbai), 2004
-Peace Award (Hyderabad Deccan), 2005
-Wolf of Bhogio Peace Award (Italy), 2005
-Gandhi Peace Award (Delhi),2007
-Peace Award, Seoul, (South Korea), 2008
-Honorary Doctorate degree from the Institute of Business Administration Karachi (2006).
-UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize (2009)

-Recognition of meritorious services to oppressed humanity during the 1980's by Ministry of Health 
and Social Welfare, Government of Pakistan (1989)
-Pakistan Civic Award from the Pakistan Civic Society (1992)
-Shield of Honor by Pakistan Army (E & C)
-Khidmat Award by the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences
-Human Rights Award by Pakistan Human Rights Society
